Back Home

Since we were upgraded at the hotel, we had access to the "Executive Lounge" for breakfast. We were in no real hurry as we were connected right to the airport terminal. We enjoyed our last breakfast in Europe and then headed to the terminal for our flight.

At the check-in counter, I discovered that there was a flight to Minneapolis leaving just five minutes before our flight to Boston (our flight was to Minneapolis via Boston). I asked if we could get on the direct-to-Minneapolis flight and she called Delta to check. I was hopeful. Unfortunately, the gate agent said that we were just a little too late. She would have been able to put us on the flight if we had even been fifteen to 30 minutes early. We were disappointed, but accepted it.

As we boarded our flight, the scan of the boarding pass buzzed and the lady said "Hold on, good news. You've been upgraded to Business Class." This certainly made the indirect flight worth it. My guess is that it was a sympathy upgrade since they couldn't get us on the direct flight. The Business Class flight was extremely comfortable and an excellent experience.

Customs and immigration in Boston was a breeze and we didn't really have that much time before our flight to Minneapolis.

At Minneapolis, we picked up our car rental (we chose a VW Beetle which was surprisingly smooth, powerful, and comfortable) and drove back home.
